Why DrillGrid exists
Join the Grid.
Build better boxers.
Practical boxing drills, a second brain for coaches, and free tools to help amateur boxing clubs grow.
Most coaching notes end up on the back of a hand-wrapping roll, a notes app nobody else can access, or a folder that gets abandoned after six months. Drills get forgotten. Session plans get rewritten from scratch. And when a new coach walks into a club for the first time, they start from zero because there’s nowhere useful to send them.
DrillGrid exists because a group of coaches got tired of exactly that.
The beginning
It started with a problem that had no solution
Good coaching knowledge had nowhere to live.
The idea came out of a coach education course. A group of new coaches were working towards their qualifications and ran into the same wall: they needed drills, they needed session plans, and they needed a practical way to plan work suited to different ages, experience levels and abilities in the same session. There was no central place to find any of it.
A few handwritten notes later, it became clear the problem was bigger than one group. Coaches were doing the same thing again and again: writing drills down, losing them, then writing them again. Sharing nothing. Starting over constantly.
So the idea grew into something more considered: a practical database and planning tool built specifically for boxing coaches, at every level.
The tool
What DrillGrid does
Find it. Save it. Build on it.
Think of it as a second brain for your coaching. You can save drills, build and store session plans, and find work that suits different ages, experience levels and abilities so you’re not cobbling together the same session on the fly every week.
The drill library is searchable, filterable and growing. Rather than hunting through YouTube or scribbling on whatever’s nearby, you can find what you need, save what works, and build on it session by session.
The long-term ambition is to become the world’s largest useful database of boxing drills. Not the most polished. The most useful.
DrillGrid is built by coaches for coaches. It is also a useful resource for boxers and enthusiasts who want to understand the sport and learn from people who know it properly.
The community mission
Grassroots boxing.
Not algorithms.
DrillGrid doesn’t run on an algorithm. There’s no feed trying to keep you scrolling, no content ranked by engagement metrics, and no useful post buried because it didn’t collect enough likes in the first hour.
The community side of the platform is built around what grassroots boxing actually needs. Volunteer coaches and developing coaches who want to improve. Clubs that want to promote amateur events, find sparring partners, identify potential bouts, and connect with other clubs without depending on social media to do it for them. A noticeboard that behaves like one.
Boxing at grassroots level runs on people who give their time freely and know an enormous amount. DrillGrid is a place for that knowledge to go somewhere useful, rather than disappearing when someone moves on or steps back.
Now and next
What’s here now and what’s coming
A platform that grows with the coaches using it.
The club noticeboard is live. Coaches and clubs can post, share and connect without the noise of a social platform pulling them in three directions at once.
The drill library already lets members like drills, giving the community a simple way to signal what helps. A dedicated Drill of the Week feature and other upgrades are part of what comes next. The platform gets better as more coaches use it and contribute to it.
It is early. But it is built on a clear idea: coaching knowledge is hard-won and worth keeping, and the people doing the work at grassroots level deserve better tools than a crumpled notepad and a fading memory.
