Purpose
Teaches the first defensive answer to the jab.
Setup
- Pair boxers as A and B
- Start at technical pace, complete the sequence, reset, then swap roles
Run it
- A jabs to head
- B parries with rear hand
- Reset
Coach checks
- Small parry
- do not slap
- eyes forward
- chin down. Check the purpose: teaches the first defensive answer to the jab
Scale it
Progress to B parry and counter jab.
Common faults
- Rushing the drill
- overreaching
- standing still after punching
- or trying to win the drill instead of learning the skill
Amateur relevance
Clean visible contact, immediate answer after defence, and a composed exit help the boxer look in control.
Use it
Use short technical rounds. Keep it cooperative before adding scoring or pressure.
